needlespit asked: What's the oldest book in your collection?

That depends on how you define a book. The oldest printed book in our collection is in fact the oldest book printed from moveable type—the Gutenberg Bible. Pictured above is one of the oldest manuscripts in book form in our collection, a copy of the Gospels in Greek that is about a thousand years old. If you expand the definition to include anything used to record writing, this pottery shard, known as an ostrakon (shown below), dates from about 200 BCE, making it some 2200 years old.
